March already! Winter came early and hit hard this year. Temperatures plunged below zero on too many nights. Biting winds joined in and made being outside something to be avoided. I am eyeing the calendar warily. SPRING it says. Hmmmm. Yet signs of spring are sneaking up on us. A tree of bluejays, the cranes back on the Platte for their annual migration, light after five, advertisements for seasonal help...when the turkey vultures return to Hot Springs, it will be official.
I've started posting upcoming "activities" for your enjoyment. Take a look at the calendar page. The Black Hills Playhouse has already published it's program for this summer. The Black Hills National Forest has published this years Moon Walks.
Every summer brings change - I'll try a little harder to keep up!
Road Trips & Golden Retrievers
Willow - photographed by John Minium on the left there is the little devil dog of my three golden retrievers. Maverick, a prince of a pup, is my shy sweetheart and Molly is our elder happy girl. They all have tales to tell and just might be inspired in 2014.
Road trips. It's been awhile. First on the agenda. Back to the crane migration. It's actually been a couple of years since I've gone. Time to return to the wonder of hundreds of thousands of three foot tall dancing cackling birds. New Year's resolution number 1. The crane shot on the right, was also taken by John Minium.
